Reminiscent of then six-year-old Kris Aquino in a youthful campaign on stage for her late father Benigno Aquino, Jr., the only daughter of detained Liberal Party (LP) senatorial candidate entrusted her father’s fate to the Filipino people in the 2010 polls.

“Like how my father placed so much trust in the law and the people, I am now entrusting his destiny to you this coming election. Kayo na po bahala sa aking ama.”

In the LP Senatorial Slate Launch at the Philippine Normal University (PNU) on Wednesday morning, Aika Lim, Brigadier General Danilo “Danny” Lim’s 18-year-old daughter, spoke on her father’s behalf amidst the sea of political aspirants.

“Gen. Lim would very much want to join you today, but it’s not possible because he is in prison; unjustly incarcerated because he chose to stand up to defend the people’s rights and interest,” the architecture sophomore said.

BGen Lim was incarcerated on charges of alleged mutiny against the Arroyo administration staged in the Peninsula Manila on 2006.

“Even though imprisoned and isolated from the outside world, my father never yielded, he was never broken. For that alone, my father’s enemies already lost. Behind his prison bars, he continues to fight together with the people. Whose daughter will not be proud of that?” Lim quipped.

Earlier in January, Lim was reinstated after the Commission on Elections (Comelec) granted the motion for reconsideration of the detained candidate. The disqualification was issued on the grounds of Lim’s filing of his certificate of candidacy (CoC) when he first filed as an independent candidate, but he was soon placed under the LP ticket through the nomination of Sen. Mar Roxas a day after the filing deadline.
