January 27, 2010
PRESS RELEASE

The daughter of a detained rebel soldier vying for a senatorial seat this May 2010 elections is the youngest person who spoke during the public launching of the Liberal Party’s senatorial slate at the Philippine Normal University this morning.
Aika Lim, the only daughter of Brigadier General Danilo “Danny” Lim spoke in behalf of her father who is currently on his fourth year of incarceration on charges of alleged mutiny against the Arroyo government.
The young Lim began her speech by extending her father’s apology, saying the bemedalled general was very eager in attending the event but was prevented by certain circumstances.
“Gen. Lim would very much want to join you today, but it’s not possible because he is in prison; unjustly incarcerated because he chose to stand up to defend the people’s rights and interest,” Lim said.
The 18-year old architecture sophomore student also described her ordeal of not seeing her father for the last four years as a very agonizing tribulation.
“Since I was fourteen years old, I only get to see my father in different detention centers. It’s very painful,” Lim said.
However, she said she learned to understand her father’s predicament and have become very proud of him.
“Even though imprisoned and isolated from the outside world, my father never yielded, he was never broken. For that alone, my father’s enemies already lost. Behind his prison bars, he continues to fight together with the people. Who daughter will not be proud of that?” Lim quipped.
Lim ended her speech by handing over to the people the fate of her father in the 2010 elections.
“Like how my father placed so much trust in the law and the people, I am now entrusting his destiny to you this coming election. Kayo na po bahala sa aking ama,” Lim concluded.
