BGen Danny Lim Out on Bail

MANILA, Philippines – Detained Brigadier General Danilo Lim has been granted temporary liberty after posting bail, a police spokesman said.

In a text message, Chief Superintendent Leonardo Espina said Lim was released from the Philippine National Police Custodial Center in Camp Crame past 5:30 p.m. after the Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 150 issued a release order.

Aside from this, Espina said Armed Forces Chief of Staff Delfin Bangit also ordered a release order on Lim putting the brigadier general under the custody of Brigadier General Reynaldo Ordonez.

My hope to continue serving my country in an official capacity rests on the desires of my countrymen. While I am grateful to the generous ones who, in the face of all odds have opted to place their faith in my candidacy, I must respect the majority who have made other choices.

In the course of this contest, I have found that my love for my country has deepened and so has my understanding of its problems. Thus, I will continue the struggle for genuine freedoms and true reform, though by necessity I must do it now as a civilian behind prison bars. My thanks go to all those who continue to believe in me and in the cause of what is true, just and right, to the media who gave me fair coverage and who continue to be in the forefront of the struggle for truth, to the volunteers whose patience and perseverance must have been sorely tried, and to my countrymen who followed the travails of this old soldier. It has been a good fight.

It is with my deepest respect for the will of the people that I concede the contest for a seat in the Senate. My good wishes and highest expectations go to the winners of these elections.
